The Admiral-class consisted of two ships: HMS Admiral and HMS Anson. These ironclads were designed to provide improved protection and firepower compared to the older wooden warships. They featured a central armored citadel that housed the main armament and machinery, which was surrounded by thick iron plating. HMS Admiral, launched in 1865, displaced around 9,000 tons and was armed with a mix of muzzle-loading guns, including smoothbore and rifled cannons. HMS Anson, launched in 1866, was slightly larger, with a displacement of approximately 10,600 tons. It was equipped with a similar armament to HMS Admiral.
